Food Review: Samgyeopmasarap Korean BBQ Restaurant

           As Kpop continuously to be popular here in Philippines, Korean culture is also making its way to the heart of Filipino especially their Food. Who will never know their famous side dish kimchi and their famous lunch food kimbap (rice rolls)? And these days, the word “samgyupsal” is on the top list. If you have a heart for Korea then definitely this word would be on your bucket list of food to eat. So without further words, let me share my experience of it.

Samgyeopmasarap Korean Restaurant

            Samgyeopmasarap is a Korean dining to be located at the heart of Greenhills in San Juan. They also have branch in SM Bf Homes, Paranaque.

            They mainly offered unlimited pork, beef, and beef ribs. They also have other Korean food to add to your set.

            Every first timer could be excited grilling on the spot of your favourite meat. Thanks to Korean dramas and variety shows we learned about the word samgyupsal.

            Together with my friends, we went inside after taking some photos outside and checking their menus displayed.

            And this is what the place looked like.

            The place was still not full by the time we entered and its only around 11.45 AM. We got lucky because around 12:30 PM it’s already a full house and there were customers already waiting outside.

              We sat on the corner and put our order. We are four people so we ordered a mix set, two unlimited pork and two unlimited beef. Beef is expensive than pork by Php 100. Also, the menu doesn’t have a combo set so we decided to order like that to have both.

                Then, after few minutes our order arrived.

               After taking photos, we started our round 1 of grilling. We are already hungry as we didn’t take our breakfast.

                    The smoke vacuum cylinder above the grilling plate was used to heave in the smoke in but it seems that’s not the situation for our table. The smoke was scattered like a fan blowing it. Hehe.

                Then once it’s cooked we started eating. The side dishes for the menu are pickled radish, bean paste, bean sprout, kimchi, of course lettuce and the other two which I didn’t know the name.

                         Of course, eating it the right way, the wrap!

           The food is totally delicious! As the pork and beef is not too tasty but adding the side dishes in wrap makes it really appetizing! I prefer the combination of pork and/or beef, bean paste and pickled radish together in a wrap of lettuce.

            Adding a kimchi on my wrap is surprising. It is too spicy and if you are not ready for it the spiciness is totally not normal. Hehe. I have tried kimchi a lot times and the spiciness differ each time. But one thing to note, their spiciness is on another level compared to Filipino dishes. If you have high tolerance then it’s good. Regardless, kimchi is also nice. Hehe

            I and my friends have different choices of side dish, as I prefer the pickled radish; Summer preferred kimchi and Yhel liked bean sprouts.

            Our samgyupsal trip went up to round four of grilling with four sets each. Every round, we asked to change the grilling place and refill the side dishes.

This is based on my experience on this place and based on other food trip experiences.

PRICE AND FOOD 4.5/5

PROS: The food is worth the value since it is unlimited plus the time is also unlimited so you can stay from their opening till their closing if you can. They don’t have break time unlike other Samgyupsal restaurant. The food is also great. The lettuce is fresh. The radish is really a favorite of mine. The food is well stripped and presented from first to third time of serving.

CONS: The price in their menu doesn’t have VAT yet so it will be added to the final billing. The pork and beef were not well sliced on our last set. Since they are slicing the meat on the spot as well, it feels rush. The consistency of food presentation only last up until our third set. The staffs are a little bit slow of serving. Maybe because of their full house place and the order of pork and beef is overflowing. I hope they will improve in this matter because the momentum of eating is being destroyed.

PLACE and COMFORT   3.9/5

            PROS: The design of the place is simple.

           CONS: The table is uncomfortable especially for your legs and feet. The chair slides easily. They don’t have a mini trashcan for the tissues. No place for bags.

CLEANLINESS   4.5/5

            Everything is clean except for their washing area. It was clogged.

SERVICE   4/5

           The staffs are a little bit slow to attend the customers call. Nonetheless, it is tolerable and understandable for me at the situation. But it will not be at all times. They should smile a bit. 🙂
