One Saturday Trip in Macau

After landing in Hongkong, we rested on the first night since we arrived at night there. The next day we started our tour in Macau.

You might be wondering why we didn’t fly directly to Macau and  spend the night there and just came to Hongkong after. We knew that and instead of doing, we ended up through Hongkong because spending a night in Macau is expensive than Hongkong.

We set up early to catch the first ferry from Kowloon to Macau. Even though we are not confident with the direction we trusted the google map and set off. Instead of riding a taxi, we just walked the street. It is not that far from the Chungking Mansion. Just thought its an early exercise to warm us up.

Walking the streets of Hongkong at empty hour (6am) , its nice and bolder. It might get scary as there are less people and stores are still close. I thought that most of the stores closes at late night that they tend to relax a little bit longer and open late than normal.  Also, around 6 am it is still dark.

After 10-15 minutes of walking we finally found the ferry terminal. Honestly, I couldn’t believe it is a ferry terminal since it is situated inside the building with mall and hotel.  the signs just didn’t give justice to it. hehe.

Since we still have enough time, we grab our breakfast first at Mcdo inside the ferry terminal. Mcdo is the only food store open at that time.

Around 7 am, we went to the self-service kiosk at the entrance to get our ticket. We already booked our roundtrip for this and so we just claimed it by scanning the code through our mobile voucher.

Ferry ticket to Macau via Turbojet Ferry

Departing Hongkong, we passed by immigration as well. Normally, departure card should be received by the officer but since I pass through their e-service, my departure card was left with me.

After we minutes of waiting, we boarded the turbojet ferry and travelled an hour.

It is my first time travelling by a ferry to another country. 🙂

Travelling by a ferry to Macau is a wonderful experience. We managed to see the beautiful structural buildings in a calm sea. Our ride was fast and smooth. I didn’t get seasick and able to catch some sleep to have some more energy as its going to be a long day.

An hour had passed and finally Macau welcomed us with a cold weather as well.

Macau Ferry Terminal

Arriving in Macau by ferry is the same as arriving in any airports. We gone through the immigration too and received an arrival card. At the exit area, Filipino residents are there offering a guided tour for a day for a fee. Other than being their side income, it is  friendly way to guide tourist around Macau.

Being an adventurer we rejected the offer and gone our own separate ways. We don’t want to spend more and getting lost seems another way of touring the country. 🙂

Did we regret it? No. But of course we are tempted but we believe in ourselves. Also, touring with a guide can be time-strict even though they offer a better and easy itinerary.

Waiting for the free shuttle of Lisboa Grand Casino

Since we arrived early, we need to line up to wait for the free shuttle bus of Lisboa Grand casino that would bring us to our first destination, Senado Square.

This area is a free shuttle bus terminal of different casinos. Riding the shuttle is not limited for guest of the said casinos since they are not checking whether we were or not. Its a good thing but I heard some of them are really checking.

We arrived at the basement area of the hotel casino which is the entrance for guests. We almost got inside the casino but then the staff stopped us seems like asking for an id. Thanks God one staff come near us and we asked him for the lobby and showed us the way.

I was awed that in every side of the street different huge casino places were built. Macau is really a casino mecca.

After, we then walked to senado square. Its quite a long walk but we don’t mind as every corner is wonderful and exciting.

There were lot of people at this day especially in the afternoon. Since its a weekend, it should be expected.

The bright sun of Macau made us darker so be sure to wear sunscreen to protect your skin. 🙂

Food should not be skipped when visiting Macau though it’s not in our priority list. At least, we tried the famous Portuguese egg tart at Koi Kei Bakery. It costs MOP 10 / HKD 10. It is very delicious especially eating it while its hot. It is very nice to bring that as pasalubong but since we re only at the first day of our trip we decided not to get it even though you can still find it in Hongkong for a little expensive price.

The Turkish ice cream has caught the attention of many tourist especially children because of the kind of ice cream show they are doing. It is a great way of selling your product. It is very entertaining.

They have also lots of foods to offer from their drinks, snacks and meals.

We took our lunch around this place. We tried their wonton noodles and chicken. The servings is actually big. I am surprised with the serving of their rice. A complimentary drink was also given to us.  I’m a big fan of dumplings but seems Macau failed to capture my palate with their kind of it.

We also bought souvenirs along the area. Since i’m a fan of chopsticks, I bought one. Also, I got 3 ref magnet for MOP 39,  and HKG and MCU shot glass for MOP 79.

After lunch, we decided to just walk around the area. We visited a church and just relax outside of it.

After few hours, we moved to our last destination which is the Macau Tower. Going to this place is truly an adventure since we got lost. We don’t want to take a taxi  so we rode a bus. However, we took the wrong way. And so we got to tour around the city for a while. We took the time to take a small nap.

Well its worthwhile getting lost. We got crazy for a while but getting safely to our destination is a big relief. 🙂

Our last stop for our Macau tour was the observation tower where the famous bungee jumping and sky walk is located.

We got scared at first but we conquered it and enjoy the bird’s view of the city.

We also got the chance to witness people doing the bungee jumping. I felt nervous as if I’m the one jumping. A truly nerve breaking moment.

It was also nice to see the sunset from the tower.

Night time falls and we enjoy the view to the fullest.

Our day ended in Macau and we set back to Hongkong at late night.

The ferry ride going back to Hongkong is difficult, rough and scary for me. The waves are bigger than usual so people may got seasick with it. I tried to sleep through it.

The day ended full of new experiences and treasures. Its nice to travel even you’ll feel exhausted. 🙂

“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” – Anthony Bourdain
